I don’t think this is true. I frequently find paid articles from medium on google search page. I am sure paywalling an article doesn’t affect its visibility in search results.

However, after arriving on your article, people who don’t have a subscription might back out of it, hence taking away a potential reader. That sucks but it is nothing new.
